As much as I love the beauty of a good snow fall, I always have mixed feelings in the beginning. The first few snow falls of the year bring with it the reminder of its beauty and a little bit of childish excitement. At the same time a bit of sadness comes because I know that this is the beginning to an end of a riding season for us frozen state dwellers.
Hell, just yesterday, someone asked me if I had my bike winterized. I replied, "I don't see any snow and ice yet do you?"
Well, they are here. Those pesky little white things.
Anyway, I'm stubborn, and I know that there is plenty good chance for a few more good rides, if the snow doesn't hang around here too long. This is after all the third time it has snowed here this year, and we've had many 70 degree days since the last two snowfalls. I'm hoping for a few more when this one get done.
I need long term proof that Mother Nature isn't letting up on her winter wrath before I call it quits for the season.
I've said it before. If people can ride snowmobiles in the winter even though it's cold, why can't I ride my motorcycle, as long as the roads permit.
That's a beautiful picture. As for riding in the winter...as long as the roads are safe, why not?

ReplyDeleteAs I sit here writing this I watch as the first snow flakes of the year fall here in Iowa. The ground and streets are a bit to warm for it to stick around. Which is a good thing since I rode to work in the rain again today!
FLHX, yes a full face helmet is allowed. In fact it almost mandatory.

Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Snow is a 4-letter word! The last time I dealt with snow was almost 4 years ago at my Dad's funeral...not good. I hate that white stuff!

You be careful in that stuff. Darn black ice is our enemy and it sneaks up easy in shady spots. I'm all about riding in cold weather, but getting cautious about rain, ice, etc.

Lived in NY for 24 yrs. Snow? Never cared. Car tires make ruts plenty wide enough for a bike. Of course that was then, this is now.I'll stick to the west coast in winter from now on.

I'd get you pictures, but I don't ride while it's snowing or when snow is on the road. Too dangerous for me. I don't even own a full face helmet. I use a face mask for extra warmth when cold.

I feel the same about Arizona heat. Pretty from a distance. I want no part of riding in temps over 90 to 100 plus degrees. We get about two to three weeks on average of 90 plus degree weather here during the summer. I usually park the bike as if it was snowing. Not even fun. I guess it's all what you are acclimated to.

I totally agree about not riding in the 90+ degree heat. Here in Texas we don't need winter storage, but I do utilize summer storage. I put less miles on my ride in July and August than any other months of the year except maybe January. I don't like wearing jeans and a helmet in the heat. But now is prime time, 50's in the morning, 70's in the afternoon.
