Son's Of Anarchy Season 2 episode 5 review
Highlights:
Clay pays a visit to Impeccable Smokes, the new smoke shop in Charming owned by Ethan Zobel (played by Adam Arkin). Clay say's he is there to give him a proper welcome. He informs Zobel that he is going to need some protection. Zobel says, "That seems awfully nefarious for mechanics and Harley enthusiasts". Clay says, "Well, you pay, or you go away. Your choice Adolf. Welcome to Charming." Clay exits the store but not without taking a few boxes of cigars to pass around to the club.
Just after that, A.J. Weston the skinhead played by Henry Rollins walks in. Zobel says to him that Mr. Morrow needs to be humbled. They put a hit for a beating on Otto, who is a member of SOA and currently in the prison system. Jax confronts Deputy David Hale about this and asks him, "Where are you at with it". He says "No where".
Unser confronts Hale as well. Hale gets in Unser's face. Say's who are you to talk? You've been on Clays tit from the beginning. Unser tells Hale that he chose him for a reason. He is the good guy. He needs him to stay that way, or the entire department will be nothing but a god damn joke.
Unser makes Hale keep a secret, and informs him about Gemma's rape.
The club takes a vote on retaliation now or later for the beating of Otto. The vote turns no majority so they will wait until they learn more and they can play it safe. They realize that the League is really big and powerful.
Two episodes back, a blonde woman tricks Gemma into helping her with her choking baby. Then to find out the baby was a doll, and she clocks Gemma and knocks her out. This is how they got a hold of Gemma to gang rape her. We find out in this episode #5 season 2 that this woman is Ethan Zobel's daughter. She has planted a car bomb minivan for the SOA mechanics to stumble upon. Chibs, played by Tommy Flanagan practically gets blown to kingdom come.
Luckily he heard the timer when he went to start the van, and took off running just before it blew, which I doubt would be covered by van insurance. He did get caught in the explosion though, and was somewhat burnt, cut up, and knocked out. This is where the show ended.
Again this was action packed, and the trailer for episode #6 has got me itching for more.
I can't wait!

I've heard some talking that Chibs must be dead because of the big pool of blood his head was resting in after the blast. However, in the scenes for Ep.6, Clay makes a comment about "almost" killing two of our brothers. That makes me think Chibs survived.
Interesting thing about Chibs; I just found out that was his name now. Up until now, when all of us (Blackstone) are talking about the show at the bar, he's always "The Irish Guy," because nobody knows his name. I guess I could've found out if I looked hard enough online, but I just never bothered. Now I know though, so I can appear educated when we discuss the latest episode over a few cold ones this weekend.
My friends and I all love the show and always eagerly anticipate the next episode. My g/f Susan is a late bloomer, but she's catching up on Season 1, which she bought me on DVD for my birthday. I can't stop re-watching the "jerk off guy" episode. When he shows up at the restaurant and that chinese lady starts going off calling him "masturbator..." I just can't stop laughing!
i love that episode too, so funny. Im pretty sure that Chibs is Scotish but grew up in Ireland. i hope chibs is alive as i feel he is one of the better actors in the show and has more to come. unfortunately i have to wait untill tomorrow till i can download it. its realy starting to heat up now what with the land deal falling through this will surely stur up the wasp nest and gemma will have to be carefull as im sure they will try again only this time she may not walk away.
I thought this was a great episode. A lot is happening and you have to really pay attention. I thought it was cool for Unser to clue Hale into Mr. Zobel's true intent.
I think Tara's going to start having problems out of her "concerned" supervisor. Nosy bitch just needs to mind her own business! LOL!
I agree with Joker... I think Chibs didn't die, because of what Clay said... "almost killed two..".
I'm enjoying the fact that Gemma and Tara are becoming more comfortable with each other and actually show some care and respect for one another. These two women could become quite powerful, if Gemma can just get her head back on right. I'm waiting to see how that issue gets resolved. I think we're going to find out soon. (I hope!)
Great recap, Mr.M! I will watch last nights episode tonight, so... I'll be back! ;)
I know I am getting ahead of this discussion, but I totally loved Tara & Gemma's firearm play last night...too funny to see them laughing and having fun like BFF's!
Yea the Irish Guy. He does have a name. Hope he lives I've always liked his spot in the show. Tara's boss? You could see that coming. In real life "cell phones". If I were a straight citizen I'd wonder too. And it is cool to see Tara and Gemma talking. Gemma needs help. Pretty horrible rape. I did not see the clips for next week. I watched it on Hulu.
