blog directories

Blog directories,

How important are they and do they really direct more traffic to your site?

This is a " blog age" old question. I've listed with several different motorcycle blog directories, and ones not related as well. I'm not sure how much more they really help.

My motorcycle blog is listed with Technorati, which I think is probably one of the biggest ones out there. I am pretty low on their list, as my blog listing with them is brand new as of (4-13-08) last night.

I think I've got some really good content and usefull information for readers interested in motorcycles, custom motorcycle,s and custom paint. I have plenty of contacts out there with a vast array of motorcycle knowledge from the mechanical side, to the builder side to the custom paint side of the industry.

So for those of you who have found me, and those willing to continue to read, I pose the question to you, my captive audience at the moment. Do blog directories to those of you who have been at this some time longer than I help? I humbly ask your opinions, and your advise. I welcome any comments on this subject, including RSS feeds, etc.

Thanks,

Mr. Motorcycle

  1. Hi Mark - the way you get more readers is by doing exactly what you are doing - go to other blogs and leave comments, create relationships with those blogs. Then people who read the comments will come on by and see what you are all about (like me!).
Link to as many other blogs and sites as you can/want to and they'll find you, too. And, in some cases they'll link back to you - or they may just become readers and commenters here.
Don't worry, it will happen...for example, I'm off to add you to our blog roll right now. How's that?! ;)

I'll stop by and read your site often!

  3. Mark, the art of driving traffic to a website is just as huge a topic as motorcycles. The more links going out of your website to other websites and the more links coming into your website increases your Google ranking and traffic. The more often you post the higher your rank. Use words in your post titles and in your copy that people will likely search in Google. Keep that in mind. I use the word "motorcycle" quite often on purpose instead of "bike". Use a service like MapStats to see howmany visitors you are receiving, where they came from, and what search terms they used to find you. I wrote an article about "Dyna Turn Signal Relocation" and I have people from all over the world finding me through Google when they look up this topic. Keep that in mind when writing your posts. Good luck and thanks for stopping by my blog. Regarding the directories... the more hooks out there, the better your chances!

Comments with links will be deleted, so do not even bother. Hiding a link in your name will not work either.
