how fast did you say?

I need you to tell me how fast is the fastest you have ever driven a motorcycle.

Be honest. No exaggerations.

I'm going to use this in a future post with your permissions of course.
I have my reasons.

Me, 110 MPH (Aprox.) but I'll say 110. I was not clocking myself. Someone else said I was doing that.
.
To Mrs. Motorcycle. Disclaimer...If you are reading this, It was a very long time ago, and I NEVER ride like this anymore!

  1. Well, I myself saw 97 mph and I decided I had all the fun I needed for now. LOL! I know my Glide will go over 100, I just haven't had the you know whats to push it.

  2. The fastest on a bike: 80 mph

I'm not really a speed freak and I'd like to be able to ride for many more years.

  3. Top Speed: ~105mph
Least reasonable speed: 40mph on a scooter through a right hand turn. Never did that one again...

  4. 70 mph on my Hugger and she feels like I am going to blow off the road!

  5. I know this will surprise you, but I was clocked at 102. Oh wait, that was a dream - just like the one I'm having about you no longer riding unreasonably.

  6. Hmmm...geez, on the stock FLHX? 115, and that took some work with the wind to my back leaning over on the tank,(but the bike is solid on the straight!). Honda VTX? 105 mph, unstable and dared not push any harder. On the Seca, 120mph, then speed wobble, rode that out, got off the bike and threw up on the side of the road. Ninja 600r modified, around 135mph, then pussed out because all I saw was myself as a bloody skidmark on the road. (they say that bike will top out at 165 stock. I will never know however) So I will say 130mph just to be honest with a +-5mph for speedo error.

Oh wait, I was doing mach 1 on that Dodge Tomahawk in a dream once...does that count?

  7. Thanks to all who have contributed this very well needed scientific study data.

I am still waiting for the rest of you.

Mrs. Motorcycle, Seriously, would I joke about a thing like this!

  8. Linked over from Lucky's Great Motorcycle Pizza Tour.

I ride an '05 Suzuki V Strom 1000. At 120-130mph it starts closing the secondary throttle butterflies to limit the top speed. I've hit the limiter on a curvy stretch of interstate. Of course the guys I was trying to catch kept running away from me. :)

I don't normally ride that fast, but it was nice to know the bike and I could both handle it. Very smooth and comfortable at that speed too.

  9. 123 on a hardtail chopper
26 years ago over a bridge in Fall river Ma.
since then 90-95 is a fast day. and even in the land of 75 mph speed limits it's rare I go Over Eighty.
I did have to find out about my sporty when I first got her. found out she has a built in limiter,107.
You can't keep your boots on the forward pegs at that speed. the air pushes your feet off. Gave myself a good scare as feet flailing at that speed isn't really conducive to stability.

  10. I'd say between 90 and 100 someplace on my 1200C. That was only to blow by a bunch of trucks and other ball-bags that I didn't want near me on the highway. I usually cruise at 70 to 75, though she'll do 80 comfortably. The lack of a sixth gear discourages any faster for any length of time.

Big D: I'm picturing you flying over the Braga on that hardtail. How many beers did that take?

  11. Dang! some of you guys go fast. I hope ya'll don't mind if a dirt biker comments here. My dirt bike tops out at about 75 to 80, but 80 mph on dirt is still a rush :)
. I got up to around 90 on my father-in-law's Harley. Maybe this is useless info since I don't spend much time on the pavement..take it for what it's worth. I guess I am not a speed freak either. ;)

I knew you'd figure out the bridge.
No beers, Back then it was always whiskey'
and a set of blue lights...back in the day when you could still get away. LOL
[which is why I rarely drink today.]

  13. I think mine was 140 mph if I did the conversion right from KMS (230). Lucky me, my soon to be Mrs doesn't read bikers blogs!

  14. Thanks Mr.M...I was thinking about this post so I went out today to see just how fast I could go, but today I could not get the glide past 106. I wonder if something is wrong with it?

  15. Nothing wrong with your bike Dave. I was just talking to another biker this weekend and he told me that the new engines do that on purpose. They have some kind of electronic "limiter" that will shut down the back cylinder above a certain speed. I'm sure there's probably a way to remap your bike to get around that.

  16. As far a Dave goes..Won't be long, and Dave will have that 09 Street
glide! LOL! He won't need to re-map that 08 of his.

If it was me, I don't think I'd bother getting it re-mapped. I like quick acceleration, but don't need high end speeds. I only went that fast to see if I could. In the real world of everyday riding, 85 seems MORE than fast enough to me.

  17. What's bothering me is I have had it above that before. Your right, doesn't really matter all that much. My racing days ended after the fourth wipeout. I bought the bagger for just that reason. What was I thinking! Thanks D-Day, Mr.M for the reality check. Sometimes little old hairy wants to come out and play. Need to remember to kick that dude to the curb if I want to ride longer.

  18. For those of you who participated in my very scientific study in speed, I'll have my post up tomorrow!

Make sure to stop and check it out!

    THANK YOU!!!!!

  19. Even though I've never gone over 0 while riding my imaginary bike, I am very much looking forward to your post.

  20. I've run bikes up to 130 mph on a number of occasions over the years. Fastest ever was about 150 mph on my Aprilia Falco. Disclaimer: "Closed course, professional rider. Do not attempt this at home." ;-)

If you're on a bike designed to go fast going fast is easy. The Aprilia at 140+ felt better than my old Harley or Kawasaki at 100+. Standing by the side of the road in handcuffs is said to be the hardest part of going fast which is why I sold the Aprilia. My wrists chaff easily and I didn't want to risk that.

  22. I had my Honda 700 Nighthawk up to 110 this afternoon on an empty stretch of freeway.

  23. Dave,
    That's pretty good for a 700, considering it's not it's not a rocket.
