There are Trekies, and there are Star Wars nuts.
My son is a Star wars nut. He has Star Wars collectibles, and ALL of the movies. He's got multiple sets, special editions and so on. Although I don't really get it, I did enjoy the movies, and I can appreciate them.
When my son found out that the Science Museum here was having a Star Wars exhibit, he was dying to go. So, Mrs. M. and myself got tix to go and brought the young ens with.
We started out with an Omni theatre movie about movie magic, and technology, primarily based on star Wars, but not exclusively. Got to see ton's of stuff blow up. That was cool. The movie screen is Ginormous, and round so you feel like you are watching everything around you literally.
Kinda can make you motion sick if you aren't careful.
Then we went onto the exhibit portion where they had actual characters, costumes, and real props used in the Star Wars movies.
All in all, we had a great time. I especially like spending time with my family doing stuff like this, even if I'm not the Star Wars freak that my son is. I know it made his Universe, at least for one day anyway.

ReplyDeleteThat's very cool! I'm not a Star Wars nut, but it's definitely from my era. My very first radio-controlled toy was R2-D2, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!
Great pics. I wonder if this exhibit is coming to Phoenix anytime soon? I'll have to check it out. It's great that you made your kid's day...that's really one of the big payoffs of being a parent. :)
My nephew is a total Satr Wars feak!! I think he was 2 yrs old when the final 3 (or first 3) episodes started coming out. My brother-in-law gave him all of his original action figures that had been long since stored away. The kid was amazing! He was just learning to talk, but if you had any questions as to what was going on in the movies he could explain it to you.

Cool, it seems as though the younger generations now just finding S.W. think it is just as cool as folks from our generations did. It's kinda like rock -n- roll.

ReplyDeleteI have only seen the original Star Wars Trilogy. I've been waiting for my "home theatre" to be completed, at which time I plan to settle in with the family on a rainy weekend and do them all, including the new ones.
ReplyDeleteTruth be told, I do like Star Wars, but since '72 I've been a Star Trek fan. When I was a little kid, it was the first time I ever saw anything that made you feel like being in space could actually be real. I guess it's kind of like you never forget your first girl. I don't mind letting the force be with me now and then, but for me it will never beat Shatner's voice saying, "These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise..."
